Artist Profile

The Fiestravaganza Ensemble, a Berlin-based piano quartet, brings together four musicians who are celebrated for their passion and creativity in the chamber music scene: pianist Shaun Choo, violinist Aoi Saito, violist Karolina Pawul, and cellist Oliwia Meiser. The ensemble’s original name, Fiestravaganza, is a fusion of the Spanish words Fiesta (celebration) and Extravaganza (extravagant). But the name is more than just a play on words—it reflects the energetic, artistic concept that defines the quartet. Originally, the name was the title of a four-hand piano piece by Shaun Choo, which was later arranged for the quartet. This special piece captures the lively atmosphere and positive energy of a spectacular celebration and embodies the ensemble’s musical philosophy.

All members of the ensemble share an academic background at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK), where they first met. Their collaboration began in the orchestra of the Fiestravaganza International Music Academy (FIMA), where close personal and professional bonds formed between the ensemble members. These connections inspired them to continue their musical journey as a group. They were later admitted into the Masters in Chamber Music Degree at the UdK Berlin, where they are currently being trained by members of the Artemis and Faure Quartets.

Musical Vision

Since their debut last season, the ensemble has pursued the goal of bringing a fresh, modern perspective to the piano quartet repertoire. Shaped by the dynamic personalities and rich musical experience of its members, the ensemble performs chamber music with enthusiasm and passion, offering audiences a truly unique musical experience.

The Fiestravaganza Ensemble quickly established itself as one of the most exciting emerging groups. It has already been invited to renowned events such as the Langenargener Schlosskonzerte and the Long Night of Music in Lindau. In the 2024/2025 season, they appeared as guest performers at the closing gala of the International Youth Festival 2025 at the Berlin Philharmonie — a prestigious platform promoting cultural exchange and young talent across disciplines. Later this year, the ensemble members will also serve as mentors at FIMA, giving masterclasses in their respective fields. A particular highlight will be their performance at the festival’s main concert.

In addition to their musical expertise and diversity — as soloists, chamber musicians, and members of renowned German orchestras — the ensemble brings an impressive portfolio of external artistic activities. Their shared experience as artistic directors, project managers, and members of various music associations has given the group a unique perspective and a deep understanding of today’s audiences. From this arose their commitment to delivering both the highest musical quality and the novelty of undiscovered repertoire with every performance. The quality stems from their complete dedication to the musical essence of each composition, and the novelty from their constant urge to explore the new.

Fiestravaganza Ensemble aims to reach a wide audience by presenting diverse programs within an innovative framework. By combining works from the classical piano quartet repertoire with alternative compositions — including pieces by ensemble members themselves — the group becomes not only a platform for creative expression but also artistic experimentation. Here, they consciously take creative risks to forge new soundscapes.
